The Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) continued its sit-ins in Karachi on Tuesday, marking the eighth consecutive day of protests against the Parachinar crisis. Despite repeated government warnings, protestors remain resolute. However, the number of demonstration sites has decreased significantly, from 13 to just four by Tuesday morning.
While the reduction in protest sites may indicate progress, the ongoing disruptions have caused significant challenges for the city's commuters. Prolonged road closures have led to widespread inconvenience for the business community and the working class, as they struggle to navigate blocked routes. Authorities have faced criticism for their delayed response in clearing affected pathways, resulting in financial losses for many residents.
The situation on the roads has seen some improvements, with several key routes reopened for traffic. Jauhar Chowrangi to Jauhar Mor has been cleared, and protests at Five Star Chowrangi and Shamsuddin Azeemi Road have been called off. Similarly, roads in Surjani Town, Ancholi, and Golimar Chowrangi are now accessible for commuters. However, main M.A. Jinnah Road near Numaish remains closed, causing significant delays. Similarly, Kamran Chowrangi is still completely closed, requiring traffic to be diverted through alternate routes.
In District Malir, Abul Hasan Isphahani Road near Super Highway and Abbas Town remains closed on both sides, prompting traffic diversions through interior lanes and service roads. In District Central, University Road near Metro Shopping Center towards NIPA is also inaccessible, adding to the frustration of travelers who must rely on alternative paths.
Residents are urged to exercise patience and avoid protest sites to minimize disruptions to their daily routines. Travelers can contact the Traffic Help Line at 1915 for real-time updates and assistance.
As the protests continue, Karachi grapples with the challenge of balancing the rights to peaceful assembly with the need to maintain public order. Authorities and protest leaders are encouraged to work together to find a resolution that addresses the core issues behind the demonstrations while minimizing the impact on everyday life.
