Recent ICC Men's Test Player Rankings show that England's Joe Root has restored his position as the world's best Test hitter. Root's comeback came when he outperformed the West Indies in the series.

The only player in the top six to score more than 20 was him, but England scored runs lower in the order, with Jamie Smith coming dangerously close to a century. One of the greatest shifts in the rankings was the rookie wicketkeeper-batsman, who moved up 31 spots to number 64.

In three matches during his impressive series against the Caribbean team, Root scored a series-high 291 runs. With a score of 87 in the third and final Test in Birmingham, he had his best match. With this latest victory, Root officially reclaimed the number one spot, which he had occupied from August 2015 till the previous year, following a dominant showing in the opening Ashes game.

The most noteworthy development in the most recent update is Root's improvement, which he accomplished during the Test when he overtook Brian Lara's Test match total of 11,953 to rank sixth in the format's run-getting rankings. With 12,207 runs, Root led all active Test cricket players. Steven Smith came in second with 9685, and Virat Kohli was third with 8848.

Following Root's most recent rise, Williamson moved to second, Smith moved to fifth, India captain Rohit Sharma to sixth, and Pakistan's white-ball captain Babar Azam leveled with Daryl Mitchell in third.
The stunning accomplishment of the former England captain enhanced his already impressive career numbers. Root is now regarded as one of the top Test batters in the world thanks to his consistent performances.

"County cricket is something I'm really enthusiastic about, and it's clear the schedule needs to change for several reasons to see long-term gains for English cricket. Some of the best talent in cricket comes from county cricket, and for players to realize their full potential, world-class infrastructure is needed. This is advantageous to all players in the game. Our goal is to bring the first-class cricket level as near to the international level as possible. Many players believe the timetable isn't currently favorable to high-level performance; we need to figure out how to close that gap and improve the product," said Root in media reports.
